Call Us When You Need Dentures in Red Deer
If disease or poor oral health habits have left you with missing teeth, consider dentures. At Gaetz Avenue Denture Clinic, we provide dentures to people in Red Deer and the surrounding areas so they can take pride in their smiles. Although your mouth will continue to change over time, a denturist can update your dentures throughout your life.

Signs of Ill-Fitting Dentures
We recommend regular upkeep of dentures because your mouth is constantly changing. As you get older, your jawbone may start to shrink and ill-fitting dentures may hasten the bone loss process. You may also have difficulty chewing your food and interrupt your digestive system.
To prevent these problems, look for the following signs. These signs indicate that you need new dentures:
- Pain
- Sore Spots
- Unclear Speech
- Clicking Sound
- Whistling Sound
- Slipping Denture
If you experience any of the above signs or want to make sure your dentures still fit properly, visit the denturists at Gaetz Avenue Denture Clinic. We can assess your mouth and recommend new dentures, if necessary. Most people require relines every 2-3 years and new dentures every 5-7 years.
Types of Dentures
Partial, Complete & Implant Dentures in Red Deer

Partial Dentures
Partial dentures replace one or more teeth. The denturist places your teeth on a metal framework and secures the dentures with clasps. We offer the following types of partial dentures in Red Deer:
- Transitional: We construct this temporary cosmetic treatment, which is also known as a flipper, with acrylic. This solution works best for patients who require temporary replacement before installation of an implant or bridge.
- Metal: These partial metal dentures use chrome-cobalt to fill gaps left by missing teeth.
- Titanium: Patients with titanium dentures prefer a light, thin &biocompatible material.
Not sure which material fits your needs? Rely on our denturist to help you find the material that fits your preferences and requests.

Complete Dentures
Complete dentures in Red Deer provide patients with a full set of teeth. Whether they need to replace the top, the bottom, or both, complete dentures can fill the gap. We offer three types of complete dentures:
- Standard Dentures: This cosmetic treatment uses a standard-grade tooth & acrylic. Within a few appointments, denturists create prosthetic replacements based on your mouth’s measurements.
- Biofunctional Prosthetic System (BPS) Dentures: Denturists measure all facial information to recreate your natural smile. These dentures also restore your natural facial & lip contour.
- Implant Dentures: This treatment uses attachments to secure the denture to implants.

Surgical Dentures
Surgical dentures are dentures that are placed after natural teeth have been extracted by a dentist or an oral surgeon.
There are two ways of making these. They can be made ahead of time and inserted immediately after the extractions are done. They will act as a Band-Aid and help reduce bleeding. You will also never have to go without teeth. However, more adjustments will be needed.
Another option is to wait until your gums have healed, approximately 3-9 weeks, and then get impressions taken and the dentures made. An advantage to waiting is that you would be able to have a try-in appointment where you get to try on the teeth in wax to see how the teeth will look.

Implant Locator Attachments
Are you tired of using denture adhesives? With as little as two implants, you will never have to use it again. It is a relatively fast, minimally invasive, simple procedure. After the implants are placed, the surgeon covers them with healing caps. At this time, we adjust your current denture to keep you comfortable while the bone grows to the implant.
After four to six months, the healing caps come off and are replaced with locators. After this is done, a new denture is made with attachments that snap on to the locators.
Benefits of locator attachments:
- They are self-aligning & you can BITE them into place without any damage.
- A patented combination of inner & outer retention ensures the longest lasting performance.
- Choice of preferred retention strength with different, easily exchangeable locator replacement males.
- Lowest height saves interocclusal space.

All-on-4® Procedure
Get the freedom of Permanent Teeth-in-a-Day for both your upper and lower jaw!
Permanent Teeth-in-a-Day is exactly as it sounds: permanent, secure teeth in just one day. This solution is made possible through the use of a treatment called All-on-4.
The All-on-4 procedure uses strategically placed implants to find the strongest bone. Unlike traditional implants, two of the four are placed on an angle. This allows us to load the bridge immediately and eliminates the four to six months of healing time before a secure bridge can be placed. There is often no need for bone grafts when using this technique.
On the day of the surgery, all the prep work has been completed and the denture is ready to be converted into a bridge. So you walk into the surgeon’s office wearing a denture and leave the same day with a permanent, secure bridge.
Care of Your Dentures
How to Take Care of Your Dentures
Cleaning your dentures is as important as cleaning your natural teeth.
They should be cleaned after every meal using a denture cream or denture cleaner. Denture teeth are softer than natural teeth and using toothpaste can cause microscopic scratches from the abrasives found in toothpaste. These scratches give bacteria a place to attach and grow. You should also never use bleach to soak your denture.

Repairs
Denture Repairs
Repairs can restore a fractured or damaged denture close to its original condition. We will be happy to advise you on the condition of your dentures and how to avoid further damage. Our clinic can often provide denture repair procedures on a same day – while you wait basis.

Relines and Rebases
Relines
The requirement for relining occurs when bone and tissues change due to shrinkage. Possible causes may be:
- Post immediate dentures
- Tooth loss
- Weight loss
- Bone loss in the upper or lower jaw
- Sickness or disease
The bite position, existing teeth and acrylic base(s) must be in good condition and not worn or stained to provide a reline procedure. An impression of your oral tissue is taken inside your denture(s) to provide a working model. New acrylic base material is added to your denture to produce a correct fit. The appearance of your dentures will not change.

Rebases
The Rebase procedure is similar to relining. The difference being that a rebase replaces all the pink-acrylic denture base material. The existing teeth remain in the exact same place. Rebasing results in a more accurate fit of your denture(s).
Reasons for Rebase procedure:
- Broken denture
- Weakened or old pink denture base
- Immediate denture
Soft Liners
Removable Partial Denture Types and Materials
Depending on the teeth remaining in your oral cavity, partial dentures may be completely tooth supported, tissue/tooth supported, and implant/tissue supported. Partial dentures can be constructed out of a metal and acrylic composition or completely out of acrylic. The design process involved in creating a removable partial (denture) is specific to the patient’s needs.
Every effort is made to design a self-cleansing partial denture that preserves the remaining teeth and oral structures. When a partial denture is designed, the denturist acknowledges that chewing places a strain on the remaining teeth during eating. Partial dentures are designed with this in mind so that the chewing forces can be distributed evenly over the entire remaining teeth and soft tissues. Design modifications to your remaining teeth may be required to help equalize these forces.
Metal partials are considered stronger structurally, thinner and more hygienic than an acrylic partial. Acrylic partials are usually recommended as a transitional or temporary partial. Your Denturist will determine the appropriate treatment plan and the appropriate partial for you.

Removable Partial Denture Benefits
A removable partial denture may help preserve the natural tooth placement of your existing teeth. They ensure proper chewing and digestion by thoroughly grinding your food. A properly designed partial denture will assist in support of your existing teeth. A removable partial denture will add enjoyment to your life.
Immediate Dentures
Full Dentures Criteria for Immediate Dentures
When complete extractions of your remaining teeth become unavoidable, an immediate denture is a solution. This process will help you avoid the embarrassment of being without teeth. Your Denturist will initiate this procedure before your teeth are extracted. An impression is made of your existing teeth and gums prior to the extraction surgery and is used as working models for the construction of your new dentures. From your models the Denturist is able to copy and construct a denture, duplicating your original teeth with improvements to your appearance, if you so wish. At your extraction appointment, your immediate dentures are inserted avoiding the embarrassment of having no teeth during your healing period.

What You Should Know about Immediate Dentures
Denturists in most cases have no way of trying the denture(s) in before your extractions are completed. In some cases, esthetic compromises may have to be made in favor of structural integrity or limited space. During the healing period, postoperative instruction from the Surgeon and Denturist must be followed carefully. Your gums and bone recede to a much smaller size, because of the tooth sockets closing. Regular check-ups and maintenance ensure ideal healing are required. Temporary linings or tissue conditioners will be required to ensure a positive fit. This procedure may be repeated a number of times based on your physiological rate of healing. At the completion of the healing period, a permanent reline or a new denture may be constructed to ensure a comfortable and an exact fit. Your Denturist will advise you of the procedure that best meets your specific needs.
Complex Dentures
WHAT IS A COMPLEX DENTURE?
A complex denture is made to suit each persons individual looks and requires additional measurements of your face and jaw. Additional measurements assure a more precise function in relation to the movements of your jaw. Your prosthesis is handcrafted to match your age, complexion and facial features. Considerations such as the shape of your jaw line, lips, eyes, eyeglasses and hair color are noted. The teeth are set to produce a pleasing smile. Additional procedures are incorporated in the construction of your denture to closely mimic the movements of your jaw.
High quality teeth are used in the construction of your complex dentures to ensure a definitive outcome of the highest quality. A precision denture provides excellent function, fit, comfort and appearance.

Implants and Other Services in Red Deer
Dental implants caused a revolutionary change in dentistry. Implants are man-made replacements for the tooth roots that have been lost. They behave like real roots, even bonding naturally with the jawbone. This is called osseointegration. Implants can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple missing teeth, support a denture, or restore an entire mouth.
Implants are made of titanium. Titanium, unlike other metals, is not rejected by the body. Titanium is very strong and is biologically inert. To be a candidate, two criteria must be met: your gum tissue should be healthy and there must be enough bone to support the implant.
Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and also provide a fixed solution to having removable partial or complete dentures. Implants provide excellent support and stability for these dental appliances.
In addition to implants and dentures, Gaetz Avenue Denture Clinic also provides other services and products for our patients, such as mouth guards, night guards, and teeth whitening.
